To see the wee bee clearly you may need to click on the photo and then click again to zoom right in.
This photo was taken by my brother Duncan in Australia. He tells me that it shows the difference in size between an european honey bee and an Australian stingless wild bee (which also makes honey). I like the sound of stingless honey bees! I wonder how they stop people pinching the honey if they don't attack them with stings?
This one, again by Duncan taken in Australia, is of a European bee on a native Australian plant called a calistemon or bottle brush which apparently the bees love.
I don't know much about bees but I do know that people are worrying atleast about the falling numbers of the honey bees. I see loads of bees on my walks in Scotland. So I thought some of you might know more about bees than me and want to see the ones that I have seen.

Thankyou very much to the Bumble Bee Conservation lady http://www.bumblebeeconservation.org.uk/index.htm
who sent me the info and leaflet about Bumble bee id. I think it will take me a long time to get the hang of it. I don't see one with two white stripes in the choices.
This one was in the garden 12/8/10

This photo was taken September 2009. There were a load of white bees and I could never work out if it was just because of the pollen from the flowers. Most were even whiter than this one but extremely difficult to get a photo of because obviously they zoom about from flower to flower.
But going by the bees today August 2010 on the same flowers they have just started to get the white on them.
Scary beasties close up, wasps.

This one was found in GlenLyon not Crieff, Perthshire. I wonder what the wee bean shaped things are on it? I hope it's not a disease?

Beauties
Two beautiful friends.
A beautiful if, deadly to some, shelter.
I think this one was very glad that the rain stopped.

This beast was absolutely huge. Is it a Queen Bumble Bee?
To show you how big it was, here is a honey bee in the same flowers.
